This production tells a tale of how Lake Toba appeared. Originating North Sumatera, this classic Indonesia folktale is chosen in hopes to raise the Indonesia people's love for their culture. VIKY SIANIPAR as the musical director & composer,GATOT RAHMADI as the Scenic Designer, and PAULUS SIMANGUNSONG as director & playwright.

Synopsis:

There once was a man named Toba who lived in North Sumatera. One day, Toba saw gold coins appear in the banana leaf where he kept his fish. Suddenly, his life changed when his fish morphed into a beautiful long-haired lady named Tiomasna. She wanted to live with Toba, but Toba only allowed it in the condition that she must marry him. Tiosmasna agreed, but she made Toba promise that he will never tell anyone that Tiosmansa actually originated from a fish, or else their children will later be descendents of fish too.

Eventually, Mulajadi Nabolon, a god of the community’s beliefs, blessed the couple with a daughter named Samosir. This child loved to eat and could handle all of her mother’s food in her stomach! So, when Samosir was sent to bring lunch to Toba, she accidentally ate all the food without leaving any for himself.

Toba was enraged when he learned that Samosir finished all his food. He yelled to her, "you stupid child of a fish!". Right then, lightning struck the coconut tree and loud thunder rolled. Toba froze as he realized that he had broken his promise to Tiomasna.

Tiomasna left the house, ignoring Toba's apologetic cry. As she walked away, her foot prints gushed out water, creating a pool. The pool of water grew larger and larger until it became a lake which was named after Toba.Samosir cried for her parents help, but she was now alone. She promised to be responsible and that she would protect the lake in memory of her parents.
