In comparison with BaCAA #1, Bandung Contemporary Art Award #2 (BaCAA #02)received no fewer participants. During the three month period after this second competition was announced in the middle of last year, the BaCAA commitee in Bandung received entries from 478 artists with picture of the works to be submitted for the award.

Like BaCAA #01, this year saw a significant participation from those who are not widely-known artists. Art students, graduates from art academies or art schools, and those who just started to have an interest in making the plunge into the world of art - coming from a variety of backgrounds - make up the dominant portion of participants. Then there are also artists with already a strong standing in the world of art. Forming a mere ten per cents of the participants. From this aspect, we can safely say that BaCAA's mission to create the greatest possible opportunity for young artists and potencial artists - with an age limit - has been fulfilled. In other words, open competitions such as BaCAA can still be considered as one of the possible entry points for those who wish to become known as "artists".
